I’m happy to announce that I’ve taken a series of photos to coincide with the opening of a great new Salon in Echo Park, LA. It’s called Folklore and it’s co-fronted by our buddy Pony who has been delivering some serious cuts and colors across LA.

Shooting film

I shot a roll of film from my Yashica Electro 35 out in the desert, it’s the 1st roll out of it and about 7 years since I switched to digital. With a newly refurbished camera I took a leap back into the unknown, it’s a strange feeling to say the least. I’m on the cusp of something magical, as I come to understand the camera better and happenstance plays it’s roll… well, I can’t wait to see what happens.

Desert games

So a bunch of us went out into the desert and stayed in a very special place, special enough that they provide you with BB guns and bows n’ arrows.

We invented the game of shotgunning beers with the guns instead of a knife, after successfully shooting the cans sitting, flying through the air and double shots – the only thing left to do was shoot it out of someone else’s (or your own) hand.

Did a quick shoot for Leif recently, caught him on the tail end of an intensive recording week in LA for his 2nd album. The uneven LA weather produced some interesting chalenges for lighting but pushed us to think about how to make LA look overcast and dull, much like Baltimore (the name of the album).

Life at 90mph

“If you live your life at 90mph you’ll miss everything”. I’ve been told that’s true but for a while now I’ve been shooting out the window as I’m driven across America. Always with the windows up, always on the fly and never returning to the same place. The images are distorted, discoloured and chaotic in their conception but exhibit moments of such beauty and hold a feeling of great adventure for me. I feel lucky that I got to witness these places as we passed them by and shooting them underlines the fundamental draw of photography for me – capturing the finite and finding something of the infinite within that.

My aim is to make a full collection.

Happy New Year

I had a very lucky New Year’s Eve at a Tudor Manor house in the English countryside. After a long and fun filled night we finally slept, I came down in the morning and found the remains of the party to be two balloons and a wooden sword sitting quietly in the great hall. The light and the moment combined were poetic to say the least.

The Empire of the Dead

I visited the remains of 6 million people buried under Paris, skulls and bones formed into walls. Weird and unsettling, the chambers are marked with a warning in stone ‘Arrete! C’est ici’ (Stop! Here is the Empire of the Dead). Great stuff.

Hell&Lula desert shoot

Went out to the Joshua Tree desert with Hell&Lula to shoot a set up we’ve been planning for a while now. Took the opportunity to get two sets in seeing as it look so long to drive the ‘cool bus’ out there! Here are two tasters. Battling winter desert temperature they braved wearing Disney costumes for a dreamy contrast to their normal band identity. Super fun group. On a personal note I had a chance to test out my Canon 35mm 1.4 L lens and an Elinchrom Octabox – both were superb and serious pieces of kit.

The Plumed Serpent

I’ve recently shot during LA Fashion week, a catwalk and pre/post show for Daniella White who makes wonderful headdresses as ‘The Plumed Serpent’.
I first saw one of her creations at the R&R Gallery show where I was also exhibiting some paintings.

The White Buffalo

I was honored to be able to shoot Jake, The White Buffalo. Amazing talent, about as real as it gets. This was the first shoot with my 5Dmkii and it didn’t disappoint, manual Karl Zeiss 50mm 1.4 and a single light.
The show was just brilliant.
